Commercial Building Energy Audit

Why Get a Commercial Building Energy Audit?...

Facts from U.S. EPA Energy Star Program:

  • Portion of commercial building energy lost to waste or inefficiency:  30%

  • Money saved if U.S. commercial buildings improved efficiency by 10%:  $20 billion

  • Greenhouse gas reduction if U.S. commercial and industrial buildings improved efficiency by 10%: Equivalent of 30,000,000 vehicles

Types of Commercial Energy Audits

EnerSmart Energy solutions offers energy audits for commercial buildings up to 25,000 square feet.  Audits will be performed consistent with the commercial building energy audit procedures set out by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

ASHRAE Level I:
Walk-Through Analysis
ASHRAE Level II:
Energy Survey and Analysis
    • Conduct building’s energy cost and efficiency through analysis of energy bills

    • Conduct on-site survey of the building:

      • Visually inspect insulation
      • Visually inspect heating, cooling ventilation and water heat equipment
      • Visually inspect doors and windows
      • Evaluate major appliance efficiency
      • Evaluate lighting efficiency
      • Evaluate water usage
    • Conduct baseline analysis against U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR database of similar type buildings

    • Identify and provide cost analysis of low-cost/no-cost energy saving measures

    •  Provide a list of potential capital improvements that merit further analysis and consideration.

    • Provide building thermal imaging if applicable

      •  Conduct all Level I activities plus...

      • Conduct more detailed building survey and energy analysis

      • Provide specific breakdown of energy use within the building

      •  Identify and provide cost analysis of all practical measures within owner’s constraints and economic criteria

      • Provide a list of potential capital-intensive improvements that require more extensive data collection and engineering analysis with a judgment of potential cost savings

      • Conduct Blower door test: measure thermal envelope air leakage (if applicable)
